Tesaglitazar: A Dual Agonist of PPARPPARα/γ

Tesaglitazar (AZ 242) is a dual agonist of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) α and γ. PPARs are nuclear transcription factors and play a central role in insulin sensitivity, lipid metabolism, and inflammation. Among the receptor subtype, PPARα reportedly has a roll to decrease triglyceride levels in the blood whereas PPARγ is known to promote preadipocyte differentiation, increase insulin sensitivity and enhance cellar glucose uptake. Incidentally, the clinical development program for tesaglitazar as a type 2 antidiabetic agent was discontinued in 2006. (The product is for research purpose only.)
