Dienogest, a synthetic nortestosterone [
N0449] derivative, is a selective progesterone receptor agonist. Although dinogest binds to the progesterone receptor of the human uterus with only 10% of the relative affinity of progesterone, it has a strong progestogenic effect
in vivo. In addition, dienogest displays moderate anti-gonadotrophic effects, but no androgenic, glucocorticoid or mineralocorticoid activity
in vivo. It is reported that the agonist activity is approximately one third of that of cyproterone acetate [
C2942]. Dienogest has been used in the treatment of endometriosis by reducing the endogenous production of estradiol [
E0025]. (The product is for research purpose only.)
