Meclofenoxate Hydrochloride: A Compound Acting as a Precursor of Acetylcholine and a Free-Radical Scavenger
Meclofenoxate, also called centrophenoxine, is the ester made from 4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid [
C0250] and 2-(dimethylamino)ethanol (also called dimethylaminoethanol or DMAE) [
D0649]. It is reported that meclofenoxate increases the DMAE levels in the brain. DMAE is a precursor of acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter in the brain. Therefore, meclofenoxate is widely recognized as a nootropic enhancer. In addition, DMAE is also reported as a free-radical scavenger and an antioxidant. (The product is for research purpose only.)
