Application
Difluorocarbene Precursor (Difluorocyclopropanation Reaction)

Typical Procedure:
A solution of (E)-1 (3.6 g, 16.4 mmol) in dry diglyme (5 mL) is heated to 190 ℃. A solution of sodium chlorodifluoroacetate (27.3 g, 179 mmol) in dry diglyme (47 mL) is added at this temperature over a period of 60 minutes. After keeping the reaction at 190 ℃ for an additional 15 minutes, it is cooled to room temperature, poured into ice water and the aqueous solution is extracted with hexane (4 × 100 mL). The combined organic layers are washed with brine, dried (MgSO4), the solvents evaporated under reduced pressure and the remaining brown oil is subjected to column chromatography (SiO2, AcOEt : hexane = 1 : 8) to afford (±)-2 (2.97 g, Y. 67%) as a colorless oil.
