Cefdinir: A Third-Generation Cephalosporin More Active Against Gram-Positive Organisms
Cefdinir (FK482) is an oral third-generation cephalosporin with vinyl group at the 3-potition and 2-aminothiazolylhydroxyimino group at the 7-potition of 7-ACA [
A1266]. Cefdinir has a broad spectrum of activity against many Gram-negative and Gram-positive organisms, but does not have activity against
Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Cefdinir is more active than other cephalosporins (e.g. cephalexin [
C2248]) against Gram-positive organisms such as
Staphylococcus aureus and strains of the
Streptococcus group. Cefdinir is stable to hydrolysis by β-lactamases. (The product is for research purpose only.)
