Application
Cefadroxil: A Semisynthetic Cephalosporin against a Wide Range of Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Bacteria
Cefadroxil, a semisynthetic cephalosporin, is active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis of actively dividing cells by binding to one or more penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). The result is the formation of a defective, osmotically unstable cell wall and bacterial cell lysis (bactericidal effect). It is an oral cephalosporin similar in structure and spectrum of antibacterial activity to cephalexin [C2248] and cephradine [C2988], but with different pharmacokinetic properties. Not only does cefadroxil have a longer serum half-life, but it is virtually unaffected by concurrent food intake. (The product is for research purpose only.)
