Used Chemicals
-
- Methyl 3-Amino-4-hydroxybenzoate [M3498]
- Potassium Ethylxanthate [E0194]
- Methanol (= MeOH)
-
Procedure
-
Potassium ethylxanthate (1.00 g, 6.28 mmol) was added to methyl 3-amino-4-hydroxybenzoate (700 mg, 4.19 mmol) in methanol (10 mL) and stirred at reflux for 2 hours. Then potassium ethylxanthate (1.00 g, 6.28 mmol) was added to the solution and stirred at reflux for 1 hour. After cooling to room temperature, acetic acid (3 mL) and water (30 mL) were added to the solution. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration and dried to afford 1 as a white solid (842 mg, 96% yield).
