Application
Epothilone B: A Microtubule Inhibitor
Epothilone B, a natural macrolide compound, is a microtubule inhibitor belonging to a class of antineoplastic agents. Epothilone B was originally isolated from the cellulose-degrading myxobacteria Sorangium cellulosum. Epothilone B has a mode of action analogous to that of paclitaxel [P1632]. It binds directly to β-tubulin subunits on microtubules, stabilizing microtubules. It blocks cells in the mitotic phase of the cell division cycle, leading to cell death. Epothilone B has poor metabolic stability and unfavorable pharmacokinetics.1-4) Therefore, its analogs (e.g. Ixabepilone; BMS-247550) were synthesized and used in clinical.4) (The product is for research purpose only.)
