TCI Chemistry News September 2021
TCI offers an extensive catalog of 30,000 high-quality organic reagents suitable for benchtop-to-bulk chemistry. This issue covers our chemistry expertise and introduces a chiral ligand for the synthesis of optically active aziridines, an electrophilic sulfur-introducing reagent for fused thiophene derivative synthesis, peptide coupling using a Mukaiyama condensation reagent, olefin metathesis using UltraCat and our research publication TCIMAIL volume 187.

Chiral Ligand for the Synthesis of Optically Active AziridinesA reaction using (-)-4-tert-butyl-2,6-bis[(4S,5S)-4,5-tetramethylene-1-(2,4,6-trimethylbenzenesulfonyl)imidazolin-2-yl]phenol [B6146] as a chiral ligand enables the synthesis of optically-active aziridines from 2H-azirines. The addition of 2H-azirine and diphenyl phosphite to the reaction mixture of B6146, MS 4A, and diethylzinc produces the optically-active aziridine. The aziridines can be converted to chiral amines and oxazolines without loss of enantiopurity.

Electrophilic Sulfur Introducing Reagent for Fused Thiophene Derivative SynthesisBis(phenylsulfonyl) sulfide [B3288] can form a variety of thiophene rings or rigid sulfide bonds by the reaction with nucleophiles such as aryl lithium under mild conditions. B3288 is a synthetic equivalent of sulfur dichloride (SCl2), which is highly toxic and difficult to handle. Benzenesulfinic acid, a byproduct of the reaction, can be easily removed by liquid separation and purification.

TCI Practical Example: Peptide Coupling using Mukaiyama Condensation ReagentTCI is proud to introduce an improvement of the amidation step using 2-chloro-1-methylpyridinium iodide [C0903], the Mukaiyama condensation reagent. 2-Chloro-1-methylpyridinium iodide is known to cause less racemization.

TCI Practical Example: Olefin Metathesis Using UltraCatTCI is proud to introduces the ring-closing metathesis of diethyl diallylmalonate using UltraCat [U0141] as a catalyst. The reaction report was performed by TCI's synthesis staff. You can see not only the reaction procedure but also the comment and analysis data from our staff.
