This product is used for the detection of free amino group on resin beads in Solid Supported Synthesis.
If resin beads react with this product to give a red color by the addition of a drop of this product, the primary amines exist on resin beads.
Therefore this product does not suit for quantitative analysis, but only for qualitative analysis.
TNBS test is a safe and easy detection method of free amino group as compared with Kaiser test which requires potassium cyanide.
[Example of use]
Suspend several resin beads in DMF, then add one drop of a 1% picrylsulfonic acid solution in DMF, followed by one drop of a 10% N,N-diisopropylethylamine solution in DMF. Allow the mixture to stand at room temperature for 5 minutes. Afterward, remove the solution and wash the beads with DMF. If the beads turn red, this indicates the presence of primary amino groups.
