Diclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with strong analgesic activity. It is a non-selective cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor. COX directs the formation of several key mediators of inflammation called prostaglandins. Thus, diclofenac reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins. Diclofenac is metabolized principally by CYP2C9. Diclofenac is often used as a potassium salt (immediate-release) or sodium salt [
D2508] (delayed-release). In addition, diclofenac and its metabolites are reportedly often detected in waste waters, since diclofenac is a common pharmaceutical agent. (The product is for research purpose only.)
