Tanshinone I: A Major Lipophilic Component Extracts from the Root of Salvia miltiorrhiza
Tanshinone I, a derivative of phenanthrenequinone, is a major lipophilic component extracted from the root of Salvia miltiorrhiza, which is widely used in Chinese herbal medicine for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Biological studies suggested that tanshinone I shows a variety of pharmacological activities, such as anticancer, anti-inflammatory, amyloid-β anti-aggregation and cardio-cerebrovascular protective activities.
