Nelfinavir mesylate (AG1343) is a selective inhibitor of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) protease which is the enzyme responsible for post-translational processing of HIV propeptides. Inhibition of the viral protease prevents cleavage of the
gag and
gag-pol polyprotein resulting in the production of immature, non-infectious virus. Nelfinavir in combination with nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NtRTIs), non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) and/or other protease inhibitors profoundly suppresses HIV replication, and helps to increase the number of white blood cells called CD4 (T) cells which help fight off other infections. (The product is for research purpose only.)
