Rivastigmine Tartrate: A Dual Inhibitor of Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and Butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE)
Rivastigmine tartrate is an inhibitor of two cholinesterase enzymes, acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE). Rivastigmine activates central cholinergic nervous system by increasing the concentration of acetylcholine (ACh) in brain through reversible inhibition of its hydrolysis by AChE and BuChE. For comparison, another cholinesterase inhibitor, donepezil hydrochloride [
D4099] shows high selectivity for AChE over BuChE.. Rivastigmine tartrate is used for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. For your reference, [
D5326] is a synthetic intermediate of rivastigmine L-tartrate. (The product is for research purpose only.)
