Application
Agomelatine: A Melatonergic MT1 and MT2 Receptor Agonist with Serotonin 5-HT2C Receptor Antagonist Activity
Agomelatine is a melatonergic MT1 and MT2 receptor agonist with serotonin 5-HT2C receptor antagonist activity. Stimulation of melatonergic (MT1 and MT2) receptors in suprachiasmatic nucleus of hypothalamus by agomelatine leads to the restoration of disturbed circadian rhythm. Selective binding to serotonin 5HT2C receptors by agomelatine leads to an increase in norepinephrine [A0906(Bitartrate)] and dopamine [A0305(Hydrochloride)] levels.
