Application
Introduction of a (pinacolatoboryl)methyl group into aromatic rings

To a solution of bis(pinacolatoboryl)methane (B4103, 80 mg, 0.3 mmol, 2 eq.), 4-bromotoluene (B0661, 25.7 mg, 0.15 mmol), and Pd[P(t-Bu)3]2 (B3161, 3.8 mg, 7.4 µmol, 5 mol%) in dioxane 1.5 mL is added 8 N KOH aq. (37 µL, 0.3 mmol, 2 eq.) at room temperature. The mixture is stirred at 25 °C for 5 h and filtered through a pad of silica gel with ether. Concentration gives the residue, and purification by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/EtOAc = 12/1) gives the product in 92% yield.
