L-Methionine Sulfoxide: An Oxidation Product of L-Methionine
L-Methionine sulfoxide is an oxidation product of L-methionine [M0099], an amino acid residue in proteins that is readily oxidized by reactive oxygen species (ROS). It has been reported that methionine sulfoxide reductase A (MsrA) catalyzes the reduction of methionine sulfoxide to methionine, and has been shown to protect cells against oxidative damage which is suggested a possible role in a large number of age-related diseases.
