Istradefylline: A Selective Adenosine A2A Receptor Antagonist

Istradefylline (KW-6002) is a selective adenosine A2A receptor antagonist. Adenosine A2A receptors are a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), and also one of the receptors of adenosine. In the brain, adenosine A2A receptors are considered to be present specifically in the basal ganglia, and are thought to be involved in the regulation of motor functions. The degeneration or abnormality observed in Parkinson's disease (PD) is believed to occur in the basal ganglia. Istradefylline as a high affinity and selectivity for A2A receptors. Reportedly, istradefylline has improved motor function in patients with advanced PD including loss of L-DOPA [D0600] efficacy. (The product is for research purpose only.)
