Tazarotene: A Synthetic Retinoic Acid Receptor (RAR)-β and γ Selective Retinoid
Retinoids exert their biological effects through two families of nuclear receptors, retinoic acid receptors (RARs) and retinoid X receptors (RXRs). RAR is a type of nuclear receptor which can also act as a transcription factor that is activated by both
all-
trans-retinoic acid [
R0064] and 9-
cis retinoic acid. There are three retinoic acid receptors (RAR-α, β, and γ). Tazarotene is a synthetic RAR-β and γ selective retinoid. Many studies have shown that tazarotene can affect cell proliferation and differentiation through upregulating the expression of tazarotene-induced genes TIG1, TIG2 and TIG3. Tazarotene is used for the treatment of plaque psoriasis and acne vulgaris. (The product is for research purpose only.)
