A Ribonucleotide (5’-GMP): A Monomer in RNA

Guanosine 5'-monophosphate (abbreviated: GMP) is a ribonucleotide that is used as a monomer in RNA. It is isolated from sardines or yeast extract, and isolated by direct biosynthesis using microorganisms or enzymes. GMP in the form of its salts, such as disodium guanylate [G172] and etc., are food additives used as flavor enhancers to provide the umami taste. The G-quartet, aggregation of GMP, and cyclic dimeric guanosine monophosphate (abbreviated: c-di-GMP) have been studied in the bioscience field.
