Application
α-Lipoic acid: A Powerful Antioxidant and a Radical Scavenger
α-Lipoic acid and its reduced form, dihydrolipoic acid [D4586], are powerful antioxidants. α-Lipoic acid also scavenges hydroxyl radicals, hypochlorous acid, peroxynitrite, and singlet oxygen. Dihydrolipoic acid is a racemic compound but the R-enantiomer is thought to be more bioavailable compared to the S-enantiomer.
