Application
2',3'-Dideoxyuridine: An Inactive 2',3'-Didehydro-2',3'-Dideoxyribonucleoside against HIV
2',3'-Dideoxyuridine (ddUrd) is a 2',3'-didehydro-2',3'-dideoxyribonucleoside (ddeN). Unlike other ddeNs, ddUrd has poor anti-HIV activity.1) This is in consistent with the failure of ddUrd to be efficiently anabolized intracellularly to its 5'-triphosphate metabolite. In fact, it has been reported that 2',3'-dideoxyuridine-5'-triphosphate (ddUTP) is a potent and selective inhibitor of HIV reverse transcriptase in the cell free system.2,3) (The product is for research purpose only.)
