A mixture of Ir(acac)(COD) (4.0 mg, 0.010 mmol), 2-phenylpyridine (31.0 mg, 0.200 mmol), fluorodiphenylsilane (56.6 mg, 0.280 mmol), and 2-norbornene (75.3 mg, 0.800 mmol) in toluene (1.0 mL) is stirred at 115 °C for 24 h. Upon completion of the reaction, the crude product is purified by column chromatography on silica gel (hexane:EtOAc = 9:1) to afford pure 1 as a white solid (66.2 mg, 93%).
