Application
Efflux pump inhibitor
Farnesol has been reported to act as an inhibitor of efflux pump in Mycobacterium smegmatis. According to the study comparing the inhibitory activity with those of other efflux pump inhibitors: chlorpromazine (C2481), reserpine (R0007), verapamil (V0118), and carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP, C2876), farnesol significantly enhanced the accumulation of ethidium bromide (E0370) and decreased the efflux of EtBr in the bacteria.1)
