Acipimox, a nicotic acid [
N0082] analogue, is a long-acting antilipemic agent. It inhibits the release of non-esterified fatty acids from adipose tissue and reduces total serum triglyceride and cholesterol levels. These decrease occur in the in the very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) fraction and in the low density lipoprotein (LDL) fraction. In addition, acipimox increases high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. It is also reported to improve insulin sensitivity in diabetes. It is reported that acipimox acts on the nicotinic acid receptor, inhibiting the enzyme triglyceride lipase. (The product is for research purpose only.)
