20(S)-Ginsenoside Rg3: A Bioactive Triterpene Saponin (Ginsenoisides)
Roots of Panax ginseng C is one of the most famous medicinal plants, and contains various phytosterols and bioactive triterpene saponins (ginsenoisides). Ginsenoside Rg3 (Rg3) is a member of the ginsenoside family of compounds. It has been reported that ginsenoside Rg3 has diverse effects, including antioxydative, anticancer, neuroprotective, and anti-inflammatory actions.1-5) Rg3 has a stereocenter on C20, giving it two epimers: 20(S)-ginsenoside Rg3 and 20(S)-ginsenoside Rg3 [G0536]. Of these, 20(S)-Rg3 is known to be more water soluble than 20(S)-Rg3.4,5) (The product is for research purpose only.)
