Application
Alagebrium Chloride: An Advanced Glycation Endproduct (AGE) Crosslink Breaker
Alagebrium chloride (ALT-711) is an advanced glycation endproduct (AGE) crosslink breaker. AGE formation that occurs with aging and diabetes leads to the crosslinking of proteins formed by glycation reaction. The accumulations of AGEs contribute to the pathology events, such as age-related diseases. Alagebrium chloride was the first drug candidate to be clinically tested for the purpose of breaking the crosslinks caused by AGEs, but the development was discontinued. (The product is for research purpose only.)
