Pentafluorosulfanyl Compounds

Compounds containing the pentafluorosulfanyl group (-SF₅), such as phenylsulfur pentafluoride, possess high electron-withdrawing property and strong lipophilic character. These compounds have been attracting attention as potent building blocks in the fields of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. For example, it has been reported that substitution of the trifluoromethyl group of fenfluramine, an anorectic agent, by the SF₅ group, significantly enhanced the affinity of this compound for the 5-HT_2b, 5-HT_2c, and 5-HT₆.
