Tetramisole Hydrochloride: An Alkaline Phosphatase Inhibitor and an Anthelminthic Agent
Tetramisole hydrochloride is an alkaline phosphatase inhibitor.1-3) It is a racemic mixture of (+) and (-) isomers. The (-) isomer, levamisole hydrochloride [L0231] [T1215], is the active enantiomer.4) Tetramisole and levamisole are also used as an anthelminthic agent for the treatment of helminth or worm infections.5,6) Reportedly, they work as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist that causes continued stimulation of the parasitic worm muscles, leading to paralysis.7) (The product is for research purpose only.)
