Application
Powerful Methylating Agent

Experimental procedure: To a stirred solution of 1 (8.5 mg, 0.038 mmol) in dichloromethane (2 mL) is added 2,6-di-tert-butylpyridine (0.172 mL, 0.77 mmol) and methyl trifluoromethanesulfonate (43 µL, 0.38 mmol). The solution is heated to 40 °C for 16 h before allowing to cool to rt and diluting with dichloromethane (10 mL). The solution is washed with water (5 mL) and the aqueous extracted with dichloromethane (3 x 4 mL). The combined organics are washed with brine (8 mL), dried (MgSO4) and concentrated in vacuo. Column chromatography (petrol:EtOAc = 100:0 ~ 80:20) gives 2 (9 mg, 100%) as a pale yellow oil.
