Application
Gallium-catalyzed Bromocyanation of Alkynes
Typical Procedure: A flame dried Schlenk flask is charged with GaCl3 (7.0 mg, 0.040 mmol) and ClCH2CH2Cl (1.6 mL), then BrCN (63.6 mg, 0.60 mmol) is added. After stirring at room temperature for 5 min, alkyne (0.40 mmol) is added, and the resulting mixture is stirred at 80 °C. After 12 hrs, the mixture is concentrated in vacuo. The residue is subjected to flash column chromatography on silica gel (hexane : AcOEt = 10 : 1 → 4 : 1) as eluents to afford the corresponding β-bromoacrylonitriles.
