Application
all cis-8,11,14-Eicosatrienoic Acid: an ω－6 fatty acid with anti-inflammatory effect
all cis-8,11,14-Eicosatrienoic acid or dihomo-γ-linolenic acid (DGLA) is a 20-carbon ω－6 fatty acid. The eicosanoid metabolites of DGLA have anti-inflammatory effect; in contrast with the eicosanoid metabolites of arachidonic acid (AA) [A0781] have inflammatory mediator effect. In addition to yielding the anti-inflammatory eicosanoids, DGLA competes with AA for cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase, inhibiting the production of AA's eicosanoid metabolites.
