			Application

Abacavir Sulfate: A Nucleoside Analog Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitor (RTI)

Abacavir sulfate (1592U89 sulfate), a sulfate salt form of abacavir [A2694], is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (RTI) that inhibits HIV-1 in vitro with a potency similar to that of zidovudine [A2052]. Abacavir is converted by cellular enzymes to the active metabolite, carbovir triphosphate (CBV-TP) which is an analogue of deoxyguanosine-5’-triphosphate (dGTP). CBV-TP is incorporated into the virus DNA strand in place of dGTP, and inhibits the activity of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) both by competing with the natural substrate dGTP. (The product is for research purpose only.)
