Ciclesonide: An Inhaled Glucocorticoid with Anti-Inflammatory Activity
Ciclesonide, is an inhaled prodrug, which is enzymatically hydrolyzed to a pharmacologically active metabolite, desisobutyryl-ciclesonide following oral inhalation.1-3) The active metabolite has anti-inflammatory activity with affinity for glucocorticoid receptors of the airway that is 120 times greater than the parent compound and 12 times greater than dexamethasone [D1962].4) Ciclesonide is used for the treatment of asthma. In 2020, it has been reported that ciclesonide blocks coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) RNA replication.5) For your reference, the solubility of ciclesonide in organic solvents has been reported.6) (The product is for research purpose only.)
