Application
Piroxicam: A Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) with Antitumor Activity
Piroxicam is a nonsteroidal and non-selective cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor which has anti-inflammatory effects. The mechanism of action is mainly by inhibition of the enzyme COX in the arachidonic acid metabolism pathway, resulting in reduced prostaglandin synthesis. In addition, the mechanisms are not completely defined but piroxicam has been reported its antiangiogenic effects and induction of apoptosis in cancer cells, as well as other NSAIDs.
