Application
Ceftriaxone Disodium: A Third Generation Semisynthetic Cephalosporin Antibiotic with Longer Serum Half-Life
Ceftriaxone disodium salt is a third generation semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic, which is chemically synthesized form 7-aminocephalosporanic acid (7-ACA) [A1266]. It has a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, and is generally more active against Gram-negative bacteria than the first and second generation cephalosporins. It has increased stability to β-lactamases compared with the first and second generation cephalosporins. Incorporation of the triazine substituted side chain into the 3-position of the cephalosporin nucleus markedly prolong serum half-life.
