Mukaiyama Oxidation-Reduction Condensation
Experimental procedure1): to a mixture of benzoic acid (0.60 mmol) and 2,6-di-tert-butyl-1,4-benzoquinone (0.60 mmol) under argon atmosphere is added, a solution of benzyloxydiphenylphosphine (0.66 mmol) in dichloromethane (0.50 mL) at room temperature. The reaction mixture is stirred for 0.5 h at room temperature. The reaction mixture is quenched by adding water and the aqueous layer is extracted with dichloromethane. The combined organic layer is dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. After filtration and evaporation, the resulted residue is purified by preparative TLC to afford the corresponding carboxylic ester (77% yield).
