Embelin: A Non-Peptidic XIAP Inhibitor
Embelin is a plant-based benzoquinone that is the major active constituent of the fruits of Embelia ribes Burm, which has been used as a traditional medicinal plant since time immemorial. There are reports that embelin is a non-peptide inhibitor of XIAP (the X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein), an anti-apoptotic protein. Embelin acts as a modulator of the NF-κB, p53, PI3K/AKT, and STAT3 signaling pathways. It also exhibits potent cytotoxic, antioxidant and cancer chemopreventive effects. Therefore, embelin inhibits cell growth and induces apoptosis in cancer cells. (The product is for research purpose only.)
