Rifapentine: A Long Lasting Rifamycin against Tuberculosis
Rifapentine, a cyclopentyl-substituted rifamycin is an anti-mycobacterial agent. Rifapentine is a long lasting rifamycin whose serum half-life is five times that of rifampicin [R0079]. Rifapentine inhibits DNA-dependent RNA polymerase in susceptible strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis but does not affect mammalian cells at concentrations that are active against these bacteria. In clinical, the combination therapy using rifapentine and isoniazid [I0138] is also used for the treatment of latent tuberculosis infection. (The product is for research purpose only.)
