Catalytic Formylation Using Tetrahydroisoquinoline
Experimental procedure:
4-Methoxyphenylboronic acid (20.0 mmol, 3.04 g) and glyoxylic acid monohydrate (21.0 mmol, 1.93 g) are placed in a flask. Acetonitrile (100 mL) is injected into the flask and then 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline (4.0 mmol, 0.5 mL) is added. The mixture is stirred at room temperature for 48 h exposed to air. After stirred for 48 h, the solvent is reduced in vacuo, and the residue is purified by column chromatography (SiO2, hexanes:EtOAc) to provide p-anisaldehyde (77% yield).
