Theobromine: A Bioactive Purine Alkaloid Contained in Coffee and Cocoa Based Foods
Theobromine, a purine alkaloid, is one of the abundant methylxanthine in coffee and cocoa based foods.¹⁾ Biological studies have been suggested that theobromine works as an adenosine receptor antagonist,²⁾ and a phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitor to increase intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) [A2381].³⁾ In addition, theobromine is a caffeine [C2042] metabolite which plays an important role in the biochemical processes of mammalian organisms.⁴⁾ (The product is for research purpose only.)
