Tasimelteon: A Selective Melatonin MT1 and MT2 Receptors Agonist
Tasimelteon (BMS-214778) is a melatonin [M1105] receptor agonist with both high affinity for melatonin MT1 and MT2 receptors, similar to other members of the melatonin receptor agonist including ramelteon [R0216] and agomelatine [A2606]. Characteristically, tasimelteon exhibits a greater affinity for the MT2 as compared to the MT1 receptor. The agonist activity at the MT1 and MT2 receptors has been reported to contribute to its sleep-promoting properties. And then, tasimelteon currently is approved in the United States and the EU for the treatment of the treatment of non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder. (The product is for research purpose only.)
