Water-Soluble Condensation Reagent

1-(3-Dimethylaminopropyl)-3-Ethylcarbodiimide (HCl salt and its free compound) is known as a water-soluble condensation reagent, and is widely used in condensation reactions of carboxylic acids with alcohols or amines to afford the corresponding condensation products in good yields. Differing from other carbodiimide condensation reagents, the use of this reagent makes it easier to remove the urea derivatives as byproducts by conventional extraction procedures due to its high solubility in water.
