AMP-Activated Protein Kinase (AMPK) Activator
5-Aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleoside (AICAR, 1) selectively activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK).1) Adamo et al. reported that 1 induces the expression of Klf2 and Klf4 and activates the pluripotency transcriptional network in mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs).2) In mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs), 1 induces Klf4, Klf2, and Myc upregulation. As shown in Table, 1 antagonizes retinoic acid induced differentiation in mESCs.
