Application
Rhodium(I)-Catalyzed Aryl Nitrile Borylation through the Cleavage of Carbon-Cyano Bonds

Typical procedure (R=Ph, entry 1): A dried screw-capped 5 mL vial is charged with 2-naphthonitrile (76.6 mg), bis(neopentyl glycolato)diboron (225.9 mg), [RhCl(cod)]2 (12.3 mg), Xantphos (57.9 mg), DABCO (56.1 mg) and toluene (0.5 mL) under nitrogen. The vial is heated with an oil bath at 100 °C for 15 h followed by cooling. The product is purified by flash chromatography (eluent: hexane/EtOAc = 10/1) to give 5,5-dimethyl-2-(2-naphthyl)-1,3,2-dioxaborinane (103 mg, 86%) as a white solid.
