Application
Combretastatin A4: Antimitotic Agent
Combretastatin A4 (CA-4), isolated from the African bush willow (Combretum caffrum), binds to tubulin dimers and prevents microtubule polymerization, resulting in mitotic arrest and apoptosis in endothelial cells. Concequentry, CA-4 shows strong cytotoxicity against a variety of tumor cells. Recently, various CA-4 analogs have been synthesized and evaluated for antitumor activity.
