Glabridin: A Prenylated Isoflavonoid with Various Biological Properties
Glabridin is a prenylated isoflavonoid specifically found in the roots of licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra L.), and has various biological properties such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, anti-microorganism, anti-atherogenic, energy metabolism regulator, estrogenic, neuroprotective, anti-osteoporotic, skin whitening, and GABAergic inhibition. In addition, many signaling pathways, including NF-κB, MAPK, Wnt/β-catenin, ERα/SRC-1, PI3K/AKT, and AMPK, have been implicated in the regulatory activities of glabridin.
