Application
Sorafenib Tosylate: An Orally Active Multikinase Inhibitor
Sorafenib tosylate (BAY 43-9006) is an orally active multikinase inhibitor that decrease tumor cell proliferation. There are reports that sorafenib is shown to inhibits cell surface tyrosine kinase receptors (KIT, FLT- 3, RET, RET/PTC, VEGFR-1, VEGFR- 2, VEGFR- 3, and PDGFR-ß: platelet-derived growth factor receptor-β) and downstream intracellular serine/threonine kinases (c-CRAF, BRAF and mutant BRAF) in vitro.1-3) Several of these kinases are thought to be involved in tumor cell signaling, angiogenesis and apoptosis.4,5) In clinical, sorafenib tosylate is used for the treatment of renal cell carcinoma and hepatocellular carcinoma.
