Pirodavir (R77975) is a broad-spectrum anti-picornavirus agent, and is active against both group A and group B rhinovirus serotypes.1) Picornaviridae represent a very large family of small RNA viruses. Rhinoviruses belong to the genus Enterovirus in the family Picornaviridae, and is a kind of with highly infectious which is responsible for many of the severe exacerbations of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, a clinical trial report demonstrated that intranasal sprays of pirodavir were associated with no clinical benefit in treating naturally occurring rhinovirus colds.2) (The product is for research purpose only.)
