Phorbol is a tetracyclic diterpene originally isolated from croton oil.1,2) It is used as a starting compound for the synthesis of various phorbol diesters, which generally known for their tumor promoting activity and often employed in biomedical research to activate the signal transduction enzyme protein kinase C (PKC).3)
